The present month, however, has opened lip with quite the reverse weather conditions /ijtates our Pahiatua correspondent), and tho wintry elements have ' caused many of tlio factory suppliers to cease running while others are only delivering milk on alternate or every tiiird day. The district, having withstood the summer's drought so well, is still in a very satisfactory state as regards pasture, and only in exceptional cases has artificial foddor been used. It is expected that the majority of tho cheese factories will cease running this month. .The whey-separating plant at the Koxdale (Mangamaire) cheese factory will probably be used for milk-separa-tion during the off-season this winter, when only a small quantity of milk is available. The high prices ruling for separated cream will make the proposition a payable one. While it is quite feasible to separate milk every third day, milk kept for a similar period is hardly suitable for cheese. The Bailance Dairy Company received the excellent price of 1445. per cwt; for its Ruahine and Tainui shipments of butter forwarded to the Home markets. A supplier to the Riverbank cheese factory (situated between Pahiatua and .Woodville) informed our Pahiatua correspondent that tho total price paid for the past season's butter-fat would bo about Is. 7d. per lb. A bonus of 2d. per lb. of butter-fat was paid out this week to suppliers to this factory, and also the Woodville cheese factory. Negotiations are still proceeding in connection with the new co-operative cheese factories at Mangamutu and Hukanui. It is anticipated by the pro- ' nioters that the two factories will be in readiness;for.manufacturing cheese at tho commencement of next season. 1 What are you doin<? with jour winter mill#?
