PROGRESS AT THE SUGAR REFINERY
FIGHTING AT THE LABYRINTH HAND GEENADES CRUSH AN ATTACK (Reo. June 6, 2 p.m.) Paris, June 5. Official—"Our attacks northward of Arras are progressing. Wo captured the enemy's trench northward of the Souc-hez sugar refinery, makin" prisoners of thirty. ° * "Hand-grenades crushed an attempted German attack at Neuville and Saint Vaast. We gained another hundred metres in 'the labyrinth,' soutli of Neuville. "Tho enemy, with a long-range gun, dropped a number of shells on the fortress of Vordun, but failed to hit the mark. "Wo bombarded tho southern front of an entrenched camp near Mctz. "Tlio' Germans harmlessly fired projectiles at Saint Die." THE FRENCH CARRY A GERMAN POSITION. London, Juno 5, 3.5 p.m. liign Commissioner's report:— On Friday night three violent German counter-attacks were made against the Souchez sugar refinery and tlio trenches north and south, and were repulsed with heavy enemy losses. A French force carried the German position north-west of Cabaret. MORE THAN TWO-THIRDS OF THE TILLAGE OF NEUVILLE CAPTURED. _ London, Jupo 6, 5.15 p.m. High Commissioner's message:— In the seotor north of Arras we made important progress inside of Neuville, and now hold more than two-thirds of the villago. Wo gained 450 metres in the northern part of the Labyrinth. In the whole front of the sector a most violent artillory due\ was fought. FRENCH ARE MASTERS OF ALL POSITIONS GAINED. (Rec. June 7, 0.10 a.m.) Paris, June 6. Official.—During Friday nteht there were three violent counter-attacks on the Souohoz sugar refinery, and the trenohes to the north and south, which we Teptilsed with heavy enemy losses. The French are masters of all positions. We also carried the German position north-west of Carbart Rouge, south of Souchez, and now hold two-thirds of Neuville. Wo gained another 450 yards north of the Labyrinth. The struggle continues in the centra of the Labyrinth without cessation. . We located the German gun firing at Verdun, damaged its platform, and blew up the ammunition store.
