. NG.AIO CLUB. The report presented at the second mnual general meeting of the Ngaio Dhess Club states that the club has had i, very successful season. The handicap :ourney was won by Mr. A. B. Topp, vho won the whole of his games. Mr. S. Hicks was second, and Mr. H. V. Droxton third. Two panes are being clayed by correspondence with ' the iYiinngarei Chess Club, and these have •eached an. interesting stage. The inances show a small credit balance, ;hanks to donations received from the dub's patrons, viz.. Mi'. R. A. Wright, Mr. E. N. Sutherland, and Mr. 1 0. Cramp, Mayor of Onslow. Other jfficers elected at the annual meeting ire as follo.v: —President, Mr. A. B. L'opp; vice-president, Mr. E. Hicks, iC-n.; lion, secretary, Mr. A. S. Green; ind hon. treasurer, Mr. P. W. Banks, jood progress is being made_ with the innual handicap tourney, which is beng played' on Monday evenings in tho Vnglica'n Church Boom, Ngaio. The jest scores to date aie as follow:'—D. iVild, 5 wins, 1 loss; Carman. 4—2; ianks, 4—2; Topp, 4—3; E. Hicks, I—2; W. Hicks, 3—2; Green, 3—2; ind Brown, 3 —3. WELLINGTON SOUTH CLUB. Ladder matches are very popular just low with the members of the Wellington South Chess Club- Mr. B. B. Allen iiicceeded in regaining rang 1 from Mr. 'urclias, and is thus once more cham>ion of the club. Douglas has climbed ip two rungs by defeating i Messrs. jaughton and Bland in quick succes,ion. Murray captured rung 14 from jaughton, but Thompson failed to disodge Weme from rung 7. In the conest for rung 5, Loney (challenger) and Armstrong (defender) have each scored ne win. In the first game for rung 2, larper (challenger) scored a neat staleaato draw from Purchas. The first ;anie for rung 10 (Clark v. Berry) was lso drawn. Owing to the change in the reekly half-holiday, the club will in uturq meet on Thursdays (instead of n Fridays as heretofore). . WORKING MEN'S CLUB. The annual handicap tourneys of the Vorkiug Men's Club commence thi6 reek, there being 14 entries for raughts and 17 for chess. The chess ntries include the club champion, Mr. Sanies, who stood down last year on ccounfc of indifferent, health. Though till somewhat "run down," lie is exacted to make a good fight against the leavy odds that he is asked to concede. CANTERBURY V. WELLINGTON.
