AUSTRO - GERMAN ARTILLERY TOO STRONG
GALICIAN BATTLE SIM RAGING BRITAIN'S URGENT NEED MR. LLOYD GEORGE APPEALS FOR MUNITIONS FRENCH ATTACK ON THE "LABYRINTH" Przemysl Kas been retaken by the Austro-German troop?, and the Russians have sustained, as Mr. Lloyd George expresses it, a "severe Bet-back." This set-back, moreover, is primarily and fundamentally due, to continue Mr. Lloyd George's explanation, to the enemy's superiority in artillery supplies and munitions generally. Against this superiority bravery and numbers on the Russian • side failed. The loss of Przemysl has furnished Mr. Lloyd Goorge with a first-lurd argument upon which to base a powerful appeal to a meeting of industrial representatives in Manchester, and in the course of a remarkable speecli he makes our shortcomings in the matter of munitions painfully clear, and emphasises the need for State control of tho war workers. In the Western theatre the French are developing their offensive towards tho formidable "Labyrinth," which must be reduced before Lens can be attacked. The progress of tie Italian advanced troops into Austrian territory is being maintained; stiff , fighting has occurred, and events are shaping for «a battle on a considerable scale. There is a dearth of news from the Dardanelles. Rumours and reports of action by Rumania and Bulgaria in the near future are in tlie air. Tho British Parliament, which adjourned pending tho reconstruction of the Government, lias resumed—a historic Bession has begun.
