The Hutt Valley candidate, Miss 'A. M. Senior, continues to hold tho lead, in the Carnival Queen contest, and the St. John Ambulance Association's candidate, Mrs. Algar Williams, has secured second place, with Miss A. 11. Palmer, the Public Servicc Association's candidate, third. The Tramway Boys have lost ground, their nominee being fourth. The results of yesterday's voting are .given below:— Miss A. M. Under the patronage of Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Liverpool, tho Peter Dawson Concert Party are rendering a very fine programme m the Grand Opera House on Wednesday night, in aid of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund for the wounded soldiers, sailors, and their dependents. Tho box plan, which was opened at Begg's yesterday morning, shows the prospect of a very large house, so that early application for seats should be made. During his tour Mr. Dawson has knitted a pair of patriotic socks in red, white, and blue, which the maker intends to offer by auction during the interval, the whole proceeds of the sale to be added to the fund. CARNIVAL RUGBY MATCH. In connection with next Thursday's Carnival one of the afternoon attractions at Newtown Park is a Rugby match between representative teams selected by Messrs. 0. G. Kember and A. J. Griffiths, two of the Rugby .Union selectors, who were deputed to select opposing sides-The Mowing teams have been choscn: — j Mr.. Griffiths's Team. —Capper, E. Ryan, E. Bolton, M. Anderson, J. Tilyard, B. Algar, C. Pyle, A. Gilchrist, Moody, King, A. Wilson, Beard, T. Dent, W. Ryan, E. Osborne. Mr. Kember's Team. —Prendeville, Beard, M'Donald, MacEwan, Morris, Jim Ryan, Udy, Cunningham, Francis, Parker, Miller, Ready, Tancred, Weir, Shearer. If any of the players mentioned are unable to fill their place on that afternoon, they are asked to notify the Rugby Union immediately, so that the emergencies may be communicated with. ABLAZE WITH BUNTING. Wellington is going to be quite unlike its sober self this week. The Carnival is going to effect a metamorphosis that will gladden the public and give them the Carnival spirit—not for tho superficial fun of the tiling, but to help to establish a great fund that will help to give aid to those who become temporarily incapacitated in the great war. The first outward and visible sign of the Carnival was the suspension of strings of flags across the main thoroughfares yesterday. Altogether some 55 strings of the flags of all nations are to float high over the busy streets. In the work of hanging tho flags, the boys of the Government training ship Amokura are lending valuable assistance. EXECUTIVE NOTES. At yesterday's meeting of the executive it was reported that the Public Servise hare arranged for a very interesting display of telegraphic instruments and also a dummy post office for the carnival in the Park. Mr. Doddrell reported that permission had been granted to decorate the route of Thursday's procession, and that the work was commenced first thing that morning. He further stated tnat the Decoration Committee were receiving very material help from the Amokura boys in this work. The chairman announced that tho Government have given instructions to have the Government Buildings decorated, and that he hopes that the merchants end shopkeepers, especially those on tho main streets, would follow the Government's example in this direction. Offers were received from the National Cash Register Company to provide 32 cash registers for use at the Park and at the Town Hall; from Mr. Gardenor, of the Marble Bar, to run an ice cream aiuUsoft drink stall, the total proceeds of such stall to go to the Carnival Fund; from Mr. Hampton, on behalf of the Old Girls of the Mitchelltown School, tho selling rights of a copyright dictionary containing several hundred names of towns, with their correct pronunciation, in connection with the war. All tlieso offers were accepted with thanks.

The secretary reported that he has received a letter from the secretary of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society, stating that- a baAd of twenty members were coming down to take part in the carnival proceedings. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Osmond, T. Bush. Veitch, W. T. Grundy, and E. S. Baldwin, was set up to look after the runiiing of the society's depot in Willis Street. miscellaneous items. The supporters of Dr. Platts-Mills are fequested by an advertisement in another column to roll up in force to-night at the Y.M.C.A., when verv urgent matters will bo discussed. All present members of committees are also reminded to be there, and to bring as many willing workers with them as possible. A Gipsy Camp has been opened by the Tramway Boys opposite the 0.P.0., where anyone requiring knowledge of mysteries unknown can have same explained to them. The Tramway Boys have quite a number of art unions, among which may he mentioned a motor-car and an upright grand piano, and as tlicy have a number of, active canvassers out record business is being done. The monster Patriotic Art Union, advertised in our Saturday's issue, is now an accomplished fact, and some of the valuable prizes are being shown in the Singer Rowing Machine C'o.'s window in Willis Street. Tickets at Is. each are now available, and the project, which is one of the most attractive in connection with the Carnival, is receiving a great deal of attention.

Sutherland and Rankin, one bicycle; Mr. C. H. Pritchard, one upholstered armchair; and Mrs. Bear, one camping tent. These goods will be auctioned later in tho week.
