IN REPLY TO "YOUNG NEW ZEALAND."
(To the Editor.)Sir, —Who are you, "Young New Zealand," that you s'hould attempt to dictate your powers of reason to exemptyou and your so-called young New Zealanders from serving their country, when the nation's honour is at stake, and all laws of modern warfare violated? Does it not appear to yon that you and your fellows who would offer such narrow reasoning for not enlisting are keeping ns short of men —men wlioso blood ought to bo quivering through their veins to avengo all the bitter atrocities, perpetrated by such fiendish foes? There aio many of the age of twenty who are quite fit and healthy to take their place in the field, who ought to be in camp, leastways, comparing the ages you would liave if you were Mr. Allen. There aro men in camp now who are well past forty, and not a few who are nearly fifty, who still feel and think fit to draw the sword on England's foes. Then again, you have the audacity to say young men of 25 liavo not learned to look after themselves properly. Fie! Do you come under that heading also? Then you certainly ought to be in camp without delay, and bring 4.11 your friends, where, if you have lacked that special training -under parental control, you will soon bo taught all the necessary qualifications, -discipline, cleanliness and manly sport, 'which will develop your muscle, train your eyes, and make'you think, as you have never -thought before, which will put your heart in the right place, and make a man of you. Again, if you hove not had the chanco of marrying for lack of funds, I would venture to say you ought to bo kept under strict observation and! be prevented from earning money at our expense to attain the luxury you so much desire. I will only add in conclusion that the young men of New Zealand at the early age of 18 are of physique and health to take tlxeir places against any foe, young or old. Mucli more may be added. Sufficient to say that Ido not believe you ar3 the authorised mouthpiece for young New Zealand.—l am,etc., A VETERAN.
