The lato Major Richard Price, of thß Otago Battalion (Slain Body), who. was killed at the Dardanelles, was at 0110 time very well known in Wellington. Ho was for three years a lieutenant in tho old Wellington' Submarine Mining Corps, and was one of the keenest devotees of that branch of the service then in Wellington, and though it meant to him a great sacrifice of time, lie was never happier than when engaged ill the intricate and valuable work the corps made a specialty of—a corps which many experts declare should never have been disbanded, aiul whose usefulness tho great war has proved. Old fellow-officers of his still in Wellington testify to Major Price's full knowledge in more than one branch of the service. On being removed to Dunodin, lie became attached to the Infantry Regiment there, and was held in great esteem by both his fellow-officers and the men. His father is Captain Price, a draughtsman in tlio employ in Wellington of the Ccfenco Department, who fonnerlv held a captain's commission in the Royal Marines. It is said that members of this'family have been connected with the Defence Forces of the Empire for 400 years past.
