GISBORNE'S CARNIVAL QUEEN
MISS NORMA LOISEL ELECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Cisborne, May 30. . Gisborne's Carnival Queen election concluded on Saturday night. No fewer than. 2,647,209 votes were recorded, realising the huge sum of £22,060 Is. 6d., which is claimed to ho a .New Zealand record. In addition to this, a festival held in His Majesty's Theatre, in conjunction with the Carnival, realised about £2000. Coronation Day iB fixed for Thursday next, and a big sum is anticipated during the ensuing days. The result of the election was as follows 1 Miss Norma Loisel (Tolaga Bay), 984,440 votes (Queen). Miss Ka'thleen Fromm (Sports candidate), 452j370. Miss Mary Taylor (Waiapu County), 374,087. Miss Ivy Parker (Cosmopolitan Club and Commercial Travellers), 310,827. Miss Vera Mac Donald (Waikohu), 231.812. Mrs. A. Zachariah (Territorials), 111.517. Miss Rita Caulton (Rowing Clubs), 75,414. Miss Gladys Cooper (Friendly Societies), 50,218. Miss Gena Cumming (Motorists), 36,621. Mrs. Grayson (Cook County), 26,806. The whole of the proceeds go to tho Patriotic Funds.
