The price of butter, by a proclamation. has advanced wholesale and retail, a penny per pound. _ . _,• A proclamation will be issued on Tuesday authorising the seizure of fodder. Owing to the scarcity of butter a proclamation will be issued to-day authorising the seizure of cream exported to Queensland. AUSTRALIA SHORT OF EXPLOSIVES. MINERS THROWN OCT OF WORK. Sydney, May 29. A number of coal mines are idlo owing to the shortage of explosives. Three thousand miners are unemployed at Newcastle. The Prime Minister (Mr. is in favour of Australia manufacturing her own' explosives._ and has promised to .take steps to relieve the situation. ' THE SUCAR CRISIS. SHORTAGE NOW PROVIDED AGAINST. Sydney, May 29. The Colonial Sugar Company has assured the Hon. D. R. Hall (State Attor-ney-General), that it- has_ completed purchases of sugar which will overcome the shortage. SHOT BY A GERMAN. A man named Richmond was discussing the war with a German when tlia latter became enraged, drew liis revolver. and seriously wounded Richmond. Tlio German escaped. VICTORIA'S WHEAT SUPPLY. STATE TO COMMANDEER. (Rec. May 30, 3.40 p.m.) Melbourne, May 30. The State Government is importing wheat supplies. Some poultry-keepers secured a consignment- at a landed cost of 7s. fid. per bushel. A Bill will be introduced next week commandeering the State's wheat supplies.
