GENERAL BIRDWOOD SAID TO BE WOUNDED
A RUMOUR. IN MELBOURNE. (Rec. May 30, 3.35 p.m.) Melbourne, May 30 Speaking at a London luncheon, Sir George Reid (Australian High Commissioner), said that he was glad that General Birdwood's head wound was not serious. Beyond this, no .'nformation has been received by the Federal authorities that General Birdwood has been wounded. [General Birdwood is the Commander-in-Chief of til© Australian and New Zealand Army Corps in the Dardanelles.] AUSTRALIAN SECOND-IN-COM-MAND WOUNDED. (Rec. May 30, 3.40 p.m.) Melbourne, May 30. Senator Pearce (Federal Defence Minister), has announced that Colonel M'Cay, Second-in-Command of the Australian Forces in the Dardanelles, was wounded above t'he knee. The injury is not serious, and it is expected that lis will shortly resume duty. LISTS FAR IN ARREARS. (Rec. May 30, 3.35 p.m.) Melbourne, May 30. Although the Defence authorities are making every endeavour to expedite tho Dardanelles casualty lists, the indications are that they are far in arrears. While the local lists total 4539, Sir George Reid's cable messages' state that the Australian casualties include 550 dead, and 5200 wounded.
