THE SALVATION ARMY
NEW INSTITUTE OPENED AT TRENTHAM. The Salvation Army's new institute at the Trentham military camp wa6 opened last evening by LieutenantColonel Gibbon, in the prosence of an enthusiastic gathering of soldiers, who completely filled tbe hall, hundreds failing to gain admission. The chair was occupied by Lioutenant-Colonel Powley (Chief Secretary of the Salvation Army), who was accompanied by Majors Colledge and Page and Adjutant Rixon. The orection of a new building was necessitated b.y leason of the fact that spaoious as was the Army's former building, it was totally unable to meet the requirements of tho soldiers, who nightly thronged it. The new institute, which is the largest on the camp area, and fitted up in the most approved style, is 90ft. long by 50 feet. Games rooms and reading rooms are built with moveable partitions, so that in the event of the whole hall being required for concert purposes, which is frequently the case, the partitions may be removed. On oither side of tho ball are six readme tables on hinges, with a moveable bracket underneath, so that they may bo let down as occasion demands. The stage is 24ft. by 9ft., and at the rear thero aro four rooms—a chaplain's, ladies' and , pcntlomon's dressing-rooms, and n. store. Thereading and games rooms eaoli iold four tables. Tho Chief Secretary road a telegram from tho Hon. James A'len (Minister of Defence) regretting inability to bo present, an dexprossiii ghis appreciation of what is being dolie by the Salvation Army in camp, and wishing tho institute a most successful oareer of usefulness in tho interests of soldiers. Ho also read a imuieapp from Commissioner Rodder, who is conducting a campaign in the South Island, wishing prosperity to tlio new venture. Lieutenant-Colonel
