MASTERTON NOTES
At a patriotic gathering at Langdale on Thursday night the sale of a flag realised a sum of £520. The flag was ultimately bought by Mr. Rupert Morrison for £50, and presented to the Whareama school.
The Masterton Chess Oiub has accepted a challenge from tho Hamilton Club to a telegraphic match to be played on June 3.
Mr. Peter Olliver, of Fernridge, was thrown from his trap on Thursday evening and was dragged a considerable distance along the road He sustained scalp wounds and facial injuries which necessitated medical attention.
"Farmer" Daysh, of Marfcinborough, is loyal to the finger-tips. At _ the Farmers' Union Conference at Pahiatua he sold a song of his own composition for. a sum of £76. He was at Langdale on Thursday night, and sold the sam# song for about £20. He is engaged to sing at concerts throughout the district. The whole of the proceeds are going to the Allies' Relief Fund. A military concert in tha Masterton Town Hall on Thursday night realised n sum of about £50. This is to bo used to provide a miniature rifle range for the Citizens' Defence Rifle Club. The Masterton Gun Club held the first shoot of tho season oil Thursday. A sparrow match was won by Mr. D. M'Laclilau. A clay-bird match was divided by Messrs. D. M'Lachlan, and R. Buick.
