BOON TO DEFENCE DEPARTMENT. The following letter from the Director of Medical Services of the Defence Department (Dr. J. R. Purdy) was read at the meeting of tho City Council.

"With reference to your letter of May 13, ro tho Plague Hospital, we have taken possession as from Tuesday last, May 11, and will pay the rent mentioned, 10s. per week, willingly. It may interest you to know that seventyfour cases of nieasl&s have been treated in tho hospital since its reopening, and that wo have not had one case of pneumonia. The hospital has indeed been a boon and we are very grateful to the City for the use of it."
