The Danish steamer Betty was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea. The crew landed at Shields.

CANADIAN STEAMER TORPEDOED

London, May 27. The Canadian steamer Morwenna, 1414 _ tons, bound from Montreal to Cardiff in ballast, was torpedoed and shelled when 160 miles from St. Ann's Head (a cape at the entrance to Milford Haven), where the crew landed. Tho Jacqueline, a Belgian steam trawler, observing a submarine attack the Morwenna, attempted to ram it. The submarine's second shot sank the Morwenna in a few minutes. The Jacqueline picked up the crow, and again attempted to ram the submarine. After firing fifty shots at the Jacqueline the submarine disappeared.
