THE ENEMY'S TRENCHES
WONDERFULLY CONSTRUCTED London, May 27. A correspondent in North Franca states that a wave in the straightened line from Festubert to Ricnebourg l'Avoue has taken, in the enemy's trenches east of Laquinque. The trenches are wonderful constructions, being made of concrete, having electric light and fans, the draught-making mechanism being worked by electricity. Most of the trenches are provided with machine guns embedded in cement concrete casemates.—("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) PRUSSIAN INFANTRY WIPED OUT. London, May 27. During the action on the 16th and 17th in the Festubert district tho 57th Prussian Infantry lost 2400 out of 3000.
