THE CARE OF THE WOUNDED
It was with a thrill of pride the public read yesterday of the many generous offers to provide accommodation and attention for New Zealand's wounded soldiers. The war has made many calls on public-spirit-ed citizens, but as each new need arises the response comes as prompt and unfailing as ever. The country is only now beginning to realise dimly wh'at with its resources in men and wealth it really can do to aid in bringing the war to a successful end. The shock of the long casualty lists from the Dardanelles has stirred in almost everybody a desire to bear their share of the burden of the struggle, and indeed there are not a few patriotic citizens who seem never to be able to feel that they have done enough. One finds their names in nearly every list, and wherever a helping hand is needed their hands are there. The shirkers in this direction are comparatively few. The generosity of those who are giving up their homes to the sick and the wounded is another reminder that now is the time for all of us, young and old, to put our whole effort into furthering the Empire's cause by every means within our power.
