NOTES AND COMMENTS
[Br Glencoe.] The acceptances received for the first day's handicaps at Otaki next- week are exceptionally good and record fields may be expected in all the events. The Opaki trainer, T. Pritchaid, yesterday received aa addition to his team in the shape of a Signor mare, owned by the Seddon sportsman, Mr. J Fuller. C. Emerson passed through Wellington yesterday on his way north to attend the Auckland meeting. B. Deeley, who is well clear of the other jockeys on the winning list, is coming south to rid« at Otaki. Despite his burden of 12st. 81b., Soporific has been accepted for in the Hack Steeplechase at Otaki. The Lethe gelding won three races on the flat at Christmas time, and as he is also a dual winner over country at Wanganui, this month, he must bo very hard to beat amongst the lot lie will have to meet at Otaki. From Foxton comes word that The Rover is jumping brush fences proficiently, and ho will bo seen under silk in the Hack Steeplechase at Otaki. When he raced at Wanganui, Multiply was on the big side, and he may be seen in a better light in the Baukawa Cup, in which he will have the services of B. Deeley. There is somo talk of the bay gelding being schooled over fences during the winter months. The Porirua team, consisting of Martyrs, Coldstream, Gold Soult, George, and Naupata, will be Tailed to Otaki today. J. 11. Prosser will take chargo of the team, and Jockeys M'Sweenejf and M'Donald will go up to do the riding. There promises to bo a dearth of horsemen at Otaki next week and several local owners are experiencing considerable difficulty in getting riders for their horses. Allen Doone will bo riddon by W. Bell in the lUukawa Cup. The Hastingstrained horso is racing more generously of late, and lie promises to be ono of the well fancied division on Juno 3. At Opaki, Trainer Harry Pritchard is having a liable containing eight looseIxtxcs erected. Chillies, who is now trainod by rrilclinrd, will shortly be joined by ;i couple of vniingylcrs. Prominent, absentees, .from the Naukawa Cup field are Bonny Helen and I'rintw iUmifM. 'flic (wc> irtflWs V?r« this oftly. horses catered from Uw lordell *
stables, so presumably F. Tilley will miss the meeting. Banksia has been sent back to Riccarton, so apparently she has not been sold. The chestnut mars has not been a great success this autumn, but ago improved her dam, Tortulla, and it may du the same for Banksia.
