FOOTBALL AND THE WAR
AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION'S ACTION. (Br Teleeraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 26. Active steps aro at present being taken bv the Auckland Rugby Uinoa with a view to making sure that all footballers under its auspices are doing their share in the war crisis, and the following circular letter has been issued bv the secretary of the union (Mr.C. V. Langsford) to all clubs which are under the jurisdiction of 'the union "Acting on the suggestion of Colonel Major, I shall bo glad if you will kindly let me liave as earjy as possible the number of players in training in, any of the following: (1) Senior Cadets,. (2) Territorials, (3) National Reserve. 1 need hardly point out the necessity for all to do their utmost to become as efficient as possible, and while we have overy reason to feel more than gratified vith the ready responso of our players to take their' share in the defence of our Empire, olio cannot but help thinking that there are stiil numbers of lis who though not able for various rea. sous to 20 to tlio front, are not taking our share of the burden, and filling ourselves for the defence of our Dominion should the necessity arise, I therefore ask you to let have as soon 03 possible the information asked for, so that with that before us we niay then consider the position with a view !o calling tlio clubs together, and see in what wax we ran assist, ill this cause.
