CASE OF SIR EDGAR SPEYER
MR. ASQXJITH PRESENTS THE ' KING'S ATTITUDE. London, May 25. Mr. 'A'squith; in a'sympathetic letter, informs Sir Edgar Speyer that the King was not prepared to withdraw distinctions conferred in recognition of public services and philanthropy. Sir Edgar Speyer recently offered, to resign bis Privy Councillorship and baronetcy. He declared that it was hard to'bear the unjust aspersions on his loyalty. Sir Edgar controls tho London house of Speyer Bros. .He is chairman of the Underground Railways, and of the Queen's Hall Orchestra, president of the Poplar Hospital, and one of the founders of .the Wbitechapel Art Gallery.
