'AUSTRALIAN OFFICER'S LAPSE. (Bee. May 20, 9 p.m.) Melbourne, May 25. Tho Fodoral Executive has considered the case of Second-Lieutenant Moore, who v.-as found guilty on the second count only. The Executive approved the sentence, which Teduced Moore to the ranks, the degradation to bo followed by his dismissal from the Defenco Forces. Mooro was charged on two counts with disobeying his superior officer's orders. He was appointed postmaster at Rabaul, and Colonel Holmes (tho officer commanding at Rabaul) ordered tliat no person should be allowed to purchase over ten shillings' worth of each denomination of surcharged German New Guinea stamps, -which had become of high philatelic value. Mooro was charged with selling to Captain Ravenscroffc over ten shillings' worth, and, further, with similarly purchasing stamps himself. Tho Customs discovered a package in Mooro's baggage, which Moore admitted contained stamps of a fac value of £100.
