APPRECIATION
At last night's meeting of the Karori Borough Council, Councillor A. Hamilton moved "That tliis council places on record its appreciation of the valour displayed by the troops of tho Dominion in their recent engagements at the Dardanelles, the good work they have done, i.nd the noble sacrifice of life in responding to the Empire's call, and that sympathy be extended to tho relatives of those killed or wounded." The motion was seconded by the Mayor (Mr. B. G. EL Burn) and carried unanimously. HIGH COMPLIMENT TO THE COLONIALS BY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA. Melbourne, May 25. Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson, Governor of Australia, speaking at a veterans' luncheon, said that even though Italy were Germany's ally she had had to join against a would-be tyrant engaged in the persecution of mankind. The Australians and Now'Zealanders, with adaptability, initiative, intelligence, ami dash, and with submission to discipline, had made somo of the finest troops who ever marched under tho British (lag. They had shown at Gallipolli that the dash of the British arms was only equalled by the endurance of the rank and file, of the Austialian and New Zealand Forces.
