Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool has consented to be present this afternoon at the tango tea, to be held at the Town Hall at 3 o'clock, in aid of the Fund for Nst Zealand Wounded Soldiers, Sailors, and their Dependents. Councillor L. M'Kenzie was yesterday afternoon elected chairman of the Outlying Districts' Committee of the Wellington City Council. Mr. H. Tait, Superintendent of the Wellington Fire Brigade, returned from a trip to Australia by the Manuka last evening. He was accompanied by Mrs. Tait. Mr. G. Forbes (Opposition Whip) and Messrs. 6. Witty (Riocarton), J. T. M. Hornsby (Wairarapa), and W. S. Mao Donald (Bay of Plenty), Liberal M.P.'s, arrived at Whangaroi yesterday. They have proceeded north to take part in the contest for the Bay of Islands seat. —Press Association. Mr. Peter M'Coll, engineer in charge of the municipal power-houses, has been advised that the wound sustained by his son, Lieutenant M'Coll, is slight, and that no ono aeed worry on his scoount. Miss J. K. Hutchen, _ assistant teacher at Newtown, is retiring after thirty years' service, and Miss M. K Bannister, Otaki, after thirty-two years service. The' Education Board received 'their resignations yesterday, and _ expressed appreciation of their services. Senior Engineer A'. D. Varian, R.D., R.N.R., of the training ship Amokurn, has reoeived notice from the Admiralty that His Majesty the King has been pleased to approve of the award to him of the Royal Naval Reserve Officers' Decoration. Mr. Edward Qulnlan, of the Harbour Board's staff, has received a. cable message stating Hat his son ( Mr- Hoy Quintal, who was injured in the Dardanelles oajnpaign, is progressing satisfactorily towards recovery. Referring to the death at Loventie, North France, of Anthony Wilding, tie famous tennis ohampion, a petty officer writes: "A 'Jack Jolnsou' buried Anthony Wilding alive in a dug-out. ills Irish terrier is a disconsolate wanderer."—Press Association. Mr. James Mackenzie, Under-Sedro-tary for Lands, has been in the South Island districts .on business connected with his Department. Mr. Donald Lawrie, son of Mr. W. B. Lawrie, of Wanganui, is now sublieutenant engineer on H.M.S. Hythe. Mr. Horace Ames, of Plimmqrton, returned from a visit_ to Australia by the Manuka last evei ing. Among the passengers to arrive from Australia by the Manuka last evening was Miss Elsy Treweek (Mrs. Collier), who is to sing tie part of Santuzaa m "Cavalleria Rusticana." with tho Royal Wellington Choral Society on ruesday next. Williams, son of Mr. W; T. Williams, of Te Aute, has enlisted as a private in King Edward's Horse. Mr. G. A. Jones, headmaster of tho Te Oro Ore School, has been selected from five applicants for the position of teacher of English and arithmetic at the Maßterton Technical School. Mr. J. W. Windle has resigned his position as manager of the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company.
