SOCIAL & PERSONAL School Girls' Sale of Work. A children's saio of work, organised by Miss Eileen Fosse tte, Was held'in the Baptist Schoolroom 011 Friday evening 111 aid of Hie Mayor's Belgian Fund. The sum of £3 los. (Id. was realised! and this is a particularly creditable undertaking, since its organiser, a schoolgirl of fourteen, had spent all her college holiday making varieties of small articles for the sale. She was assisted on Friday night by some of her .school friends. Military Hospital Cuiltl. The aoting-secretarv of "the Citizens' Military Hospital Guild acknowledges the following contributions:—S. E. Watson (Lower Hutt), dressing-gown; Jlrs. M'Gregor, 1 pair blankets. Waimate Cnlf Club. The best scores returned for tho monthly bogey were: Miss Bodmin (8), all square; Misses Poynder (20), M. Gaynor (13), and E. Gaynor (11), 4 down. The match for the Coronation medal takes place on May 29. Tho St. John Nursing Guild. A special meeting of tho committee of the District Nursing Guild of St. John was held at the residence of Mrs. W. E. Sefton Monrhotise 011 Friday, May 21. Sirs. Sefton Jloorliouse presided, and Mesdames Tripe, Corrigan, and Pearson, and Miss Robieson were also present. Nurses Macandrew and Walton also attended. An apology was received from Sirs. Hadfield. The president explained that the meeting was summoned for the purpose of considering the situation created hy the pending resignation of the Senior District Nurse (Nurse Ma.candrew), who was desirous of an early relcaso from duty, in order that she might proceed to England and offer her services for duty in lied Cross or St. John Ambulance Hcspital work. Nurse Macandrew, in tendering her resignation, spoke of the cordial relations which had existed between the members of the committee and herself during the eigbt years spent by her in the service of tho guild. At the same time she felt that, in the present crisis, it became her duty to olfer her services to the Home authorities. The committee I hen accepted her resignation with regret, and expressed appreciation of her past. work. A resolution was passed asking Nnrsn Walton to accept the position of Senior District Nurse. In replying, Nurse Walton said that while, sho was 110 shirker, she was not able to volunteer for service abroad, .and was pleased to be able tr> accept the appointment of the committee. The secretary was instructed to advertise for applications for ihe position of Junior District Nurse, rendered vacant by Nurse Walton's promotion, and the meeting closed. Miss Helon Gard'ner, the Dunedin vocalist, is a visitor to Wellington. She has come to Wellington to see her sist<r, Miss Dorothy Gard'ner, the popular member of the Violets Company, and was assisting the visitors in their street campaign on Saturday. The Misses Gray (Taratahi, Wairarapa) are visiting Wellington. Mrs. S. Hempton, who is managing the tobacco stalls at the coming carnival, wishes to thank the following donors:—Fulton and Co., J. Reeß (Wellington) is nursing ;n a military hospital in France. Miss Purcell, who received her training in the Wellington Hospital, expects to leave for France shortly for a brigade hospital under the direction of St. John Ambulance Red Cross Society, writes a London correspondent of April 13. At the time of writing Miss Purcell was Matron of the Red Cross Hospital at Hazelwood, Rydo, in t"lie Isle of Wight. A member of the Pioneer Club is giving an "At Home" at the club this afternoon, when each guest is ssited to bring a shilling to go towards the Victoria League's supply of medical comforts for the troops. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Blake (Waverloy), Mrs. E. Short (Feilding), Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Howells (San Francisco), and Mrs. W. Hall (Canterbury) are amongthe visitors staying at the Grand Hotel. A London correspondent writes that Miss M. p. g. Milne (Auckland) spent a fortnight in Egypt where her brother is with the New Zealand Expedition ary Forces, and then left for England bv the Moldavia. She is now waiting to be. attached to one of the military hospitals. Among the visitors staying at Caulfield House are: Mr. and Mrs. Smart, Mrs. Noble Adams (Blenheim), Miss Leslie (Blenheim), Misses Chapman (2), Miss Watson, and Miss Smythe (Dunedin). A Monday afternoon sewing-circle has been _ started at the residence of Mrs Pennifold, Todman Street, Brooklyn, in connection with the "Order of the Star in tho East." Any garments suitable for making into children's clothes, to be given to war orphans, will he thankfully received, if left at Brooklyn, or with Mr. Kilpatrick, grocer, Place, who has kindly consented to forward to Brooklyn anything left at his (•hop.
