HEROES OF THE YPRES BATTLE (Rec. May 25, 0.35 a.m.) London, May 24. Correspondents visiting Ipres eulogise the gallantry of the Territorials. The 9th Argylls 'held their trenches despite the fact that 900 8-inch shells were falling in the trenches, and the London Rifle Brigade did wonders on the night of May 31. Sergeant Belcher and six men held a trench which had been blown to pieces, ar.d repulsed a German attack _by means of rapid rifle fire, a heroic piece of bluff which saved the flank of the Fourth Division. Captain Kailston, of the 2nd Bifle Brigade, though wounded, similarly bluffed the Germans into believing that tlio trenches were held in force, though there wore only three others witlrhim. A battalion of the Sud'olks regulars came out of action a dozen strong. The Durham ami Xorfcliiiiiiberland Territorials, many of whom hud never seen a shot tired in battle, faced the devilrv of poison gases, and afterwards I'oimhi with the greatest spirit.
