LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

« I There were present at last evening's meeting of the Lower Hutt B.orough Council the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin), and Councillors Hodgins, Meldrum, Carver, Brassel, Clendon, M'Dougail, Ball, and Hobbs. Permission was granted to the Hutt and Petone Plunket Nursing Society to use the Council Chamber each Wednesday, and on the second Tuesday of evfiry alternate mouth, for meetings. In respect to a request from the Hutt Rugby Football Club for tho use of Tfio Recreation Ground for training and the pavilion for dressing purposes between 7 and 9 p.m. on certain evenings, it was decided to refer the matter to the Reserves Committeo to report upon. Messrs. Baker Bros, forwarded plan of portion of load between Rata Street and the stop-bank, which they desire to dedicate to tho council. In this connection Councillor Ball moved that the council cannot soe its 'way clear to accept the dedication. An amendment by Councillor Hodgins lo the effect that the matter should be referred to the borough solicitors was lost, and tho motiotn, which was seconded by Councillor Clendon, was carried. A deputation representing the Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club waited on the council, asking that a gas main be laid from the Main Street, along Fraser Street, to the club's property. It was decided, after some discussion to accede to the request. An application was received from 62 residents, asking that street lamps 6hould be erected in Melling and Rata Streets, and that the asphalting of the footpaths in these streets be provided for 1)1 the new estimnLcs. It was resolved that the engineer bo asked for an estimate of the cost of the lamps, and the' matter of asphalting was held over until the estimates are being framed. In the absence of Councillor Purdv, Councillor M'Dougail moved, pursuant to notice: "That the time has arrived when the by-laws of the borough should be revised, extended, and carried into effect." The motion was carried. A By-Laws Committee, consisting of the Mayor, and Counrailars Carver, M'Dougali, Ball, and Vurdy was appointed. The engineer's report showed that the expenditure for the fortnight ending May 15 has been:—District Fund account, £208 4s. Id.; gas account, £10 16s. lOd.; total, £219 "Os. lid.
