« RUGBY WINS FOR THE TRENTHAM TEAMS Trent hair, A (17) y. Poncko (12). Trentham B (11) v. Wellington (6). Petono (18) v. Selwyn (3). Trentham C (6) v. Oriental (3). Athletic won. by default of St. James. Good Rugby was witnessed by those who patronised Saturday's matches. A week ago surprise was created through all the Trentham teams being defeated, but this Saturday the three camp teams were victorious. Two of the Trentham team? appeared on Athletic Park, where th 4 spectatorat-e numbered something over a thousand. The chief match was between Poneke and Trentham A. A close contest was looked for, and it came. Trentham A won, but they were thoroughly extended, and had no great margin of points in their favour at tho finish. The game was fairly fast and very interesting: it would have been faster but for the deadly collaring which was a feature of the play. ' Trentham A scored first, Reeves forcing a way over after an opening had been made for him by Lynch. Taylor converted. Trentham A, 6; Poneke, 0. Poneke retaliated with an atatck, which ended in Hedges scoring a try. Trenthm A, 5: Poneke, 3. Taylor led a charge which paralysed Poneke, and while the Reds were recovering from an experience which must have seemed rather like trying to stop a railway train, Lynch stole a try. Trentham A, 8; Poneke, 3. A try by Algar and a penalty goal from near half-way by E. King put the Reds in the lead. Poneke, 9; Trentham, 8. Before halftime Trentham A added two tries, one by Bilkey and the other by Lynch. Lynch's was tho result of an excellent passing rush by the backs. Trentham A, 14; Poneke, 9. Each side scored a try in the second spell: Tilyard got over for Poneke, and Turmington for Trentham A. The scores, therefore, were: Trentham A, 17; Poneke, 14. Mr. W. J. Meredith was referee. TRENTHAM B—WELLINGTON. Trentham B beat Wellington by 11 to 6. For the winners tries were scored by Denize, Smart, and W. J. Anderson. W. J. Anderson converted the first try. Francis and Burrell scored tries for "Wellington. Mr. J. H. Graver was referee. TRENTHAM C—ORIENTAL. The Trentham C-Oriental meeting on Saturday resulted in an interesting and hard-fought contest. The soldiers scored the try, and secured victory, tho Oriental men having scored an unconverted try. Early in the first spell, after a good passing charge, in which tho ball was tossed about with rare precision, Cowie managed to slip over. Shearer's kick did not improve the score. The Oriental backs, notably Capper and Pyle, worked desperately in defence for a bit, but all infringement gave Trentham a freekick, of which they made good use. Trentham, 3; Oriental, 3. Weston (Trentham), «. littlo lator, took possession of the leather, and galloped away through the Oriental men until at the-full-back he passed to Israel, who had but to score. Trentham, 6; Oriental, 3. The second spell was equally as strenuous, but there waß no further score. Mr. B. Simpson was referee. PETONE-SELWYN. So much had been said in favour of the Selwyn team and their hitherto unchecked raoe for the championship that the public expected an exceedingly even contest in the match Selwyn v. Potone at the Petone ground, but the game was Petone's throughout. From the kick-off, Selwyn attacked and carried play into the enemy's territory, were for a time it remained, till at length the combination of tho Potone backs told its "own tale. Hagan, from a pass, crossed the line, drawing first blood (not converted). From a lineout in the green danger zone, Joe Ryan passed to TJdy, who got over—6—o. From a scrum near naif-way, Udy. secured, and one of the finest passing, rushes of the day ensued, E. Ryan putting the finishing touch. —Petone, 9; Selwyn, 0. In the' second spell, from a mark by J. Ryan a struggle for possession followed, ending in a passing rush and a try by E. Ryan.—Petone 12—0. «A penalty-kick by M'Donald landed a neat goal for Selwyn.—Petone, 12; Selwyn, 3. Two further tries were secured as the 'result of passing rushes, and the game ended: Petone, 18; Selwyn, 3. Mr. A. C. Kitto was the referee. JUNIOR RESULTS.
