THE HOSPITAL SHIP THE AUCKLAND CAMPAIGN GOVERNOR'S APPEAL FOR FUNDS

Tho campaign to raise funds for the equipment of the Hospital Ship was inaugurated at a public meeting on Saturday night, amid scenes of great enthusiasm. Tho Governor ancf the Countess of Liverpool wero present. His Excellency, in a stirring speccli, explained the purposes of tho fund, and expressed his belief that tho people of the Dominion in this matter, which affected almost all of them personally, would give another notable examplo of their generosity and patriotism. In speaking of tho influence of tho war on Imperial sentiment, His Excellcncy declared that the result of the struggle would be to bind tho Empire together in indissoluble bonds. Lord Liverpool was cheered to tho echo. Over £1000 was subscribed at the meeting. The "New Zealand Herald" Fund, opened on Friday morning, already carries over £1200. HANDSOME DONATIONS.
