A doctor who was near by immediately attended the wounds, which were most'severe, and bleeding profusely. It was realised that there would be the most serious difficulty in stopping the bleeding, and ho was placod on j the hospital ship. | Everything possible was done, but llio doctors were unable to stem the flow. Growing weaker, the General passed away quietly before reaching Alexandria, with iiis Aide-de-Cainp, Captain Foster, who was slightly wounded, by his bedside. Tho ship arrived yesterday morning, and tho funeral was held in the afternoon, and was most .impressive owing to the quietude _of the surroundings and the simplicity of tho ceremony. The coffin was shouldered by Australians, and was followed by General Sir John .Maxwell (Commander-in-Chief in Egypt), and four other Generals, Lord Dudley (an ex-Govemor-General of Australia, and now Lieut.-Colonel of the Worcestershire Territorials), many officers and about sixty men. The remains wore laid to rest in the military cemetery. When the "Last Post" was sounded there was hardly one dry e.yo. There was a single wreath ui the coffin, a beautiful one from the Hon. H. M'Million (Commonwealth Minister for External Affairs). GENERAL GODLEY'S MESSACE. Melbourne, May 22.
