KILLED. WOUNDED AND MISSING FIRST LIST OF KILLED IN THE RANKS '£ casualty list (No. 31), issued late .on Saturday night, contained the names of 37 men killed in action, the Canterbury .ißattalion suffering the most heavily. Yesterday a further list'(No. 32) included 'the names of three officers and one man killed and 28 missing, all; of the latter belonging to tho Canterbury Battalion. Three of the hissing are known to liavo 'been wounded. The three officers killed belonged to the Auckland Mounted Rifles, one of them being a son' of Colonel ■Logan, 'the Military Governor of Samoa. The list of wounded includes the name of Colonel Chaytor, of the Headquarters Division. The/Prime Minister has been advise;] that His Excellency the Governor has received tho following telegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, dated Jxmdon, May 22:— "With reference to your telegram ' of May 22 there certainly appears to have been usual delay ill forwarding from the seat of war to the base the list of killed of rank and file. The base record office at Alexandria reported to mo on May 15 that up to that date no list of killed of either tho Australian or New Zealand Contingents had yet been received. It is presumed that continuous fighting has made (he preparation of accurate lists impossible; but 'I 'am giving instructions that a full inquiry 3hall be made into the matter." "(Signed) HARCOURT."
