RECRUITINC: A SUCCESTION.
Sir, —Now that , this terrible war is at last being realised by the Empire's overseas peoples, something more than proclamations similar to that issued by your widely-read paper of May 8 and 15 should be issued by our Defcnce authorities to assist tho available single men in deciding to rally round the flag. Ere now, tho gallant volunteers of this Dominion, who are laying down their lives in tho great common cause, have asked themselves why they should have volunteered, when available single men thoy havo known have not offered their services. Now, I woidd suggest that a direct letter, or circular, be sent to every available man in the Dominion, from the Defence Office, asking him to state good reasons why ho has not volunteered for his country's causo. A given date should bo stated when the reply is forwarded. In answering such a letter a man would be compelled to think of his position,, and it would surely' bring a large number of young men forward, who, at present, notwithstanding "proclamations" do not bother themselves about their obligations to their Empire.—l am, etc., A MARRIED DAIRY FARMER. Norsewood, May 17, 1915.
