PANAMA EXHIBITION
THE NEW ZEALAND EXHIBIT . ARTISTIC & COMPREHENSIVE Appreciation and high praise of the Now Zealand exhibit at the Panama Exhibition is expressed in a letter received by the Prime Minister from Mr.T. J. Stallsinith, Chief Exhibition Commissioner for Agriculture. He writes: "It affords me very much' pleasure indeed to toll you how proud and how happy I am with the participation in the Exposition of New land. It is my belief that New Zealand has more splendidly, artistically, and comprehensively displayed her resources and activities in all directions, than any other foreign nation participating in this department. "This is especially true when taking into consideration the great difficulties under which your Commission has laboured. Few men could havo accomplished so much and gotten, such splendid results with the funds available aa your Commissioner, Mr. Edmund Clifton, and his associates. The entire exhibit is installed in an attractive court in the Palaco of Agriculture, and your primary agricultural products are displayed in a very tasteful and attractive way. The exhibit is causing much favourable comment. In fact, I have never heard a word of adverse criticism respecting it; on the contrary, everything has been complimentary. I am therefore very much in hopes that it will bo the means of increasing the trade between New Zealand and -this country, and possibly other countries as well. "We are all very fond of Mr. Clifton. Truo to American ideas or cuswe havo given your Commissioner the title of 'colonel.' He has the love and highest esteem of all who know, him._ In his inimitably quiet and exceedingly ingratiating manner he has won the hearts of all, and to this fact may be attributed very largely his success in accomplishing what he has at so nominal an expense, in the face of existing labour conditions. "We all deprecate the unfortunate and disastrous Continental troubles involving Great Britain and her colonies, and we Tealise the sacrifices that have been made by your good, selves to participate in this celebration, and I wish to emphasise as strongly as possible the thorough and sincere appreciation of our country and all our people." Mr. Massey has also received from the Exhibition authorities a very handsome bronze tablet, a piece of very artistic work, all enclosed in a leather case. The tablet bears this inscription: "In commemoration of tho ceremonies attending the dedication of t'he National Pavilion of New Zealand at the Panama Pacific International Exposition, March 3, 1915, San Francii'oo."
