The New Zealand Sbippmg Company's chartered steamer Rangatara lelt Sytoos on Thursday morning for Auckland, WeiiSrton Lyttelton, and Dunedin, in eontinuation of her voyage from St. John to New Zealand ports. A good deal of satisfaction was oipressed In city circles in London, States the London "Shipping World," at tie safe armtl of a certain steamer from South Africa. Th» vessel had on board a large consignment of cold, amounting to about two millions sterling. and had a German pirate submarino succeeded in torpedoing the ship the loss would have been what might be called considerable. The well-known, hulk Enterprise has been Bold by the State Coal Department to the Blackball Coal Co. The Enterprise has passed through many hainda m her time, and was built in New South Wales in 1666. She made her debut here « years a-go, and was then considered a smart little vessel. On one of her early voyages hero she went ashore near Te Aro in a gale, bu.t was refloated. She was later P^ r * chased by Messrs. Levin and Co.. and for many years was engaged in the coa6lsJ trade. She was subsequently, sold, resold, and resold again, being finally purchased bv -Mr. James Mill, of Dunedin, and converted into hulk. Later, the Government bought her, and she has remained in the service of the State umtil somo months ago, when she wee offered for sale. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain 0. In point of dimensions (states tho journal} sho establishes a fresh record among British steamers so far as dry-docking in the port of London is concerned The Port Authority ero now constructing, in connection with the South Albert Dock extension scheme, another dry dock. 750 ft. long and 100 ft. wide. This, with tho recent enlargement of an existing graving dock on the Albert _ Dock estate, will put the Port Authority in possession of no fewer than six dry docks, of lengths varying from 500 ft. to 846 ft. available for tho overhauling of largo The agencies of tho Nippon, Yuficn, Kaislia, and Burns, Philp aud' Co.'s Stoamship Lines are to be taken over from Jlossrs.
