NEXT SUNDAY'S PARADE
A protest !has been forwarded -to tlie "Post" by the chairman of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Patriotic Society against the statement from the executive of the National Reserve that it was deemed inadvisable, "for business, professional, and other reasons," to parade on afterneon next. Mr. Hill says it is generally recognised by all men who have had anything to do with public functions that the public, as a body, is slow to realise events which may possibly be happening in their midst unless some special means be taken to draw attention to the fact. The Patriotic Society, whose main endoavour is to foster a- patriotic spirit, hopes by Sunday's demonstration to make the public realise still more that the Empire is at war, and that- our young men are making great sacrifices. Further, a collection is to be taken up in order to swell tile fund inaugurated to look after the wounded. Under these cir.cumstances,_ the society fails to see what objection can be raised to turning out. Personal feelings should not be studied on such an, occasion. What "business, professional, or other reasons" (the chairman asks), ''should bo allowed to stand in the way of doing all that is possible to show our loyalty to our God King, and Empire?" Tlio parade, it is contended further, would be a splendid advertisement for tlio National Reserve, and despite tho executive's decision, it is hoped that separate units will turn out.
