At the inquest on the victims of tho tragedy near Geelong a verdict was returned that Mrs. Morrison and her son were wilfully murdered by Daniel M'lntosh, who, while in a demented state, set fire to the bouse and- then committed suicide.

The house of Thomas Morrison, who was absent in hospital, was discovered on fire, the doors being fastened. Morrison's son, twelve years of age, was found dead, sitting in a chair in tho kit-cheu. ;He had a. gunshot wound in tho head. The charred corpses of Mrs. Morrison and her brother, Daniel M'lntosli, were found in an adjoining bedroom. A gun was on the floor. SEVERE PENALTIES FOR DRUNKENNESS. SALE OF LIQUOR RESTRICTION BILL. i Melbourne, May 21. The Bill restricting the hours for the sale of liquor provides for severe penalties for drunkenness. For the first offence a person will be liable to fourteen days' imprisonment, for the second a month's imprisonment, for tho third a fine of £10 or three months' imprisonment, and for any subsequent offence a fine of £20 or six months' imprisonment. Women offenders may be sent to a reformatory. A TALL DEMAND. AUSTRALIAN CARGO IN INTERNED STEAMER. (Rec. May 21, 8.30 p.m.) Melbourne, May 21. In connection with the German steamer Adelaide, interned in London, the German-Australian Steamship Co. demands that consignees shall undertake the delivery of the cargo in Australia, and fixes the contribution at 4 per cent., or-a lump sum of £5000, but declines responsibility for damages or short-landed cargo, and requires that all accounts shall bo paid prior to delivery. The committee which is dealing with the matter has decided, in view of the terms, that nothing can be done at present. OBITUARY. (Rec. May 21, 8.30 p.m.) Sydney, May 21. Mr. Ebenezer Vickery, managing director of Vickery and Sons, is dead. HIGH : PRIOED CATTLE. (Reo. May 21, 8.5 p.m.) Sydney, May 21. The highest prices paid for cattle at Homebush since 1902 were realised at the sales to-day.
