On the suggestion of and by arrangement with Professor Kirk, of the Department of Agriculture, tho Committee of the Manawatu and AVesfc Coast A. and P. Association has decided to provide space in the Produce Hall for fruit-grading and packing demonstrations, also competitions. The competitions will be held 011 the 2nd and 3rd days. Tlioy will be open to all-comers with first and sccond prizes of £1 Is. and 10s. 6d. The Department's packers will act as judges and prize-winners on the first dayy will not be eligible to compete on the second day. .This is quito a new departure, but it is in the right direction, tonding as it should, towards the improvement of tho grading and packing of fruit. This industry is assuming such proportions now that the committee is using every endeavour to keep pace with the requirements of growers. There is 110 doubt that the magnificent displays of apples staged at the National Dairy Show are not excelled or even approached ill the Dominion. It is hoped that it very valuable championship trophy will be forthcoming before next .year's show which will prove an additional incentive to the growers. The list of classes provided is a very lengthy one, and good prize money awaits the successful competitor. The competitions before mentioned are not in the schedule, but all information may he obtained from the secretary. Mr. TV. T. Penny, Box 85, Palmerston North.
