The "Times" military correspondent is of opinion that no German offensive in Franoe on a large scale is practicable before tho end of July. If tho Russians hold together, our present duty is to exploit tho delay and take advantage of the German Eastern offensive and send every available man to prosecute our offensive in tho West. CERMAN RETREAT ACROSS THE YSEH. HOLD ON DIXMUDE WEAKENING. (Rec. May 21, 0.60 a.m.) Dunkirk, May 20. The Germans carried out their retreat across the Yser on Sunday night, swiftly and secretly, and tho French occupied the positions on Monday. The ground was littered with German dead. "Tho enemy initiated a counter-at-tack on Monday night.. Their artillery rained shells for an -hour. The French defended their positions with great coolness, poured a galling fire on the advancing infantry, and drove them back.• Tho Belgian success on the eastern bank, north of Dixmudo, jeopardises the Germans' positions. If the wedge is driven, the enemy's hold on Dixmudo will be untenable. The Germans continuo to shell Ypres, but show no disposition to attack.
