GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE
ALLOWED TO 'JOIN THE FORCES. (fly Telegraph.—Press Association.) GJiristchurch, May 19. Cecil George Farrow appeared for sentence for the theft of money from the Lyttelton Borough Council, Mr. Justice Domiiston said he was allowing Farrow a chance to go to the war with the Artillery, becauso the Commanding Officer and men of the Force he had been connected yrith had signified their willingness to have him. He quite agreed with the opinions of the Melbourne Judge, that tho King's uniform should statul for honesty and unrightness as well as valour. Ho had communicated with his bother Judges, who were of opinion that Farrow should be given the opportunity. Two of them put the position in this way. Tho circumstance that the Empire is not only at war but under groat stress is so exceptional that neither precedent nor analogy nov considerations ordinarily available are present to assist a conclusion, and that, looking at tho character of the accused and other circunistances Mentioned, they were of opinion that ho should be given the indulgence _ suggested. Fortified by these opinions, and with that of Farrow's comrades, the Court would ordor him to come up for sentence when called on.
Mr. H. S. Foster, ex-M.P. for tho Lowestoft Division, and an ex-Sheriff of the City of London, has his son, his son-in-law, five nephews and fourteen cousins with the colours.
