MASTERTON NOTES

The installation of Bro. R. G. Young as Worshipful Master of the Masterton Masonic Lodge took place on Wednesday evening, the installing officer being R.W. Bro. T. A. Peterkin, Grand Superintendent of tli district. A memorial was also held to the late W.M., Lieut. E. R. Wilson, who was killed in action at the Dardanelles.

The Masterton_ Borough Council held is monthly meeting on Tuesday night. His Worship the Mayor was appointed chairman of the Works and Finance Committee, Councillor Temple chairman of the Gas Committee, and Councillor Candy chairman of the Park and Library Committee. A request from the employees of the gasworks for an increase in wages was referred to the Gas Committee for a report. A committee was set up to interview tho residents of Lansdowne, with a view to the bringing about of the amalgamation of that suburb with the borough. A fund lias been started in Masterton to supplement the Wellington fund for the provision of anaesthetics for tho hospitals at which our wounded are being treated.

Recruiting is slowly, but steadily, proceeding in tho Wairarapa, and tho recruiting officers are experiencing very littlo difficulty in securing tile drafts of men required.
