THORNDON METHODIST CHURCH
The anniversary services of the Thorndon Methodist Church were' successfully celebrated on Sunday, when there were large congregations, both morning and evening. The morning service was conducted by the Rev. C. H. Standago (newly-appointed minister at Karori and Northland), whilst in the evening the Rev. G. S. Cook delivered an appropriate discourse. The choir, under the conductorsliip of Mr. E. TV. Burd, rendered special anthems at each service, Miss J. Nicholas presiding at the organ. A solo was also given by Mr. E. W. Burd, and a flute solo by Mr. Jacobson. The anniversary was continued last evening, when Stainer's popular cantata, "The Daughter of Jairus," was rendered under the baton of Mr. E. W. Burd. The soloists were Miss B. Brittain (soprano), Messrs. W. F. Thompson (tenor), and F. Charlton (bass). The soloists' parts were greatly appreciated by the large audience. Miss J. Nicholas officiated at the organ, whilst Messrs. Taylor, Chappie, Box, and Jacobson comprised a very efficient orchestra.. For the latter half of the evening various vocal and elocutionary items were contributed. Songs were, given ty Misses Watkins and B. Brittain, Messrs. F. Charlton and W. F. Thompson; recitation by Rev. G. S. Cook; duet by Messrs. W. F. Thompson and F. Charlton ; fluto solo by Mr. Jacobson. Tlio choir rendered the anthem, "Handel's Largo," the solo part being takan by Miss B. Brittain.
The Grcytown Miniature Rifle Club, at a meeting held on Tuesday evening, elected officers as follows:—Patron, Col. 11. W. Tate; president, Mr. W. A. Tate; vice-presidents. Messrs. H. Walden, W r . Wyctt, W. J. Feast, \V. TV. Bttcknell, G. Macfarlane, A. L. Webster, and A. B. Balfour; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. G. Rouzard; committee, Messrs. It. C. Trotman, 'I'. Orr, C Nix, \V. Feast, H. Smith, H. "Walden, W. A Tate, and P-. Arthur; haudicappors, Mossrs. H. C. Trotman and H. Waldcn; auditor, Mr. C. W. Armstrong. P
