WAIHI REEFS GIGANTIC. The mine manager reports for the po6t week «s follows;— Good progress Is being made by contractor for driving crosscuts in 1000 ft. level. The advancement for week is 41ft., viz., 22ft. in north face, and 19ft. in S.E. end. In the north facc the country being passed through is still dark in colour. and shows seams of silica and quartz mixed, one seam being 3 to 4 inches in width and composed of streaks of true quartz; this has just been met with, and I consider that it is an indication that we are nearing the "reefs'sy6tcm," and the appearanco of the face is decidedly more promising. The distanco out from shaft

is 434 feet. In the S.E. face tile country 13 a-.favourable blocky andesite, well mineralised, and shows occasional veins of hard mineral pyrit.is. The distance out from chamber in this face is 352 ft., with better country in face than hitherto. All machinery is working well.
