NURSES FOR SERVICE
GOING TO THE MEDITERRANEAN
A further contingent of twenty-five New Zealand- nurses ; is to leave Wellington lor Sydney on Friday, for service in the Mediterranean.
The 25 nurses, according to the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, tvero all drawn from a waiting list of volunteers which lias liot yet been exhausted. It is likely, however, that New Zealand will bo asked to provide further nursing contingents, and tho Government will lu>' glad to receive applications from any nurses willing to volunteer. Preference is given to the members of tho New Zealand Army Nursing Service, but piobably most of the nurses in New Zealand who have any idea of going to the front have already become members of that service.
Four or are New Zealand nurses are oil service in Samoa, twelve have joined the Australian Nursing Corps, and fifty have gone to Europe. Die contingent about to leave will raise the number on service to over 90, and it i» likely that this number will be added to materially in the near future.
Although definite information oil the subject is not obtainable, the nurses leaving oil Friday will probably proceed to tho baso hospital at Alexandria (Egypt), or to the larger hospital at Malta. Possibly they may be divided between these establishments.
The Hon. James Allen (Minister of Defence), in announcing yesterday tho impending departure of another liurs-
ing contingent;, mentioned that it had bad been decided to increase tho strength of Iho New Zealand Army Nursing Service by 100.
