PHILADELPHIA ARRIVES 'AT LIVERPOOL. (Rec. May 17, 10.10 p.m.) London, May 17. The International Mercantile Marine Company's liner Philadelphia (10,786 tons) has arrived at Liverpool. Submarines were seen and precautions taken.
PULPIT REFERENCES. London, May 16. In the churches yesterday pulpit references were mads to the sinking of the Lusitania and the report by Viscount Bryce's Committee on German atrocities in Belgium <
FORCIBLE AND JO THE POINT. AMERICA'S NOTE TO GERMANY. (Rec. May 17, 6 p.m.) London, May 16. The "Times," in a loading article on the American Note on the subject of the Lusitania crime., says:— "The Note was conceived under the best traditions of American diplomacy. Neutrals may well rejoice that America has at length spoken forcibly and to the point. Germany has been squarely confronted with a demand to abandon her submarine waTfare and the violation of the rights of neutrals. We believe that Germany will comply. Whatever the issue, the moral interests of America and the Allies, are henceforward indissolubly linked." —("Times" aud Sydney "Sun" Services.)
QUESTION FOR ARBITRATION BY AMERICA. (Rec. May 17, 6 p.m.) London, May 16. The "Vossiclie Zeitung" announces tliat German Government circles favour the submission of the question of the sinking of the Lusitania and other difficulties to an American Court of Arbitration.
