POSITION OF TIMARU FARMERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Tlmaru, May 15. 'JH meeting :of farmers convened by the Otairman Farmers' TJnion this afternoon passed a resolution strongly protesting against the allotment of frozen meat space to South Canterbury for July. It was stated that there were 1,000,000 carcasses in South Island stores, and a million awaiting slaughter, and going baok on account of the shortness of feed, neither fodder nor roots being available, as in ordinary years. , Tho Government is to be asked to interfere, and see that the Sputh Island is fairly treated.

On' Saturday the Ballance Dairy Company distributed £4800 to its suppliers for milk supplied during April, payment being made at Is. 2d. per lb. of butterfat. Tho total paid out to date this season amounts to £56,210. This includes bonus money paid out last September. Tho company has received information from a reliable source stating that tho Imperial authorities were considerintr the advisability of including butter in tho rations for troops m place of margarine, owing to tho latter not possessing the necessary keeping qualities.—Pabiatua Correspondent.)

The Momona Cheese Factory, Dune-, 'din, which was destroyed by fire on. Friday, was insured for £640, and the plant for £650, and there was a floating policy on the cheese of £600. Cheese to 'the valuo of £1300 was destroyed. Tho building and-, plant were ontirely .wrecked.
