TRAMS COLLIDE
SMASH IN ADELAIDE ROAD NO VERY SERIOUS RESULTS A tramway collision, in which several people were hurt, occurred in Adelaide Road, near tho Caledonian Hotel, at about a quarter to five yesterday afternoon. It appears that Car No. 40 was standing at the stop to the south of the Caledonian Hotel, and Car No. 16, going in the same direction, collided with it in the rear.
Tho impact was rather severe. The front, of Car 16 was considerably knocked about, and tho back of Car 40 was damaged. The glass shields of both were badly smashed. •
Both cars are now in the repairs shed at Newtown.
The passengers on both cars were startled at- the impact, and some of t-liem were injured, but fortunately no severe injuries are reported. The worst case seems to be that of Mr. Patrick Mihill, a butcher, who was taken unconscious into a shop near tho scene of tho accident. Ho was suffering from a blow on the noso and a blow on the back of the head. He was afterwards attended to by Dr. Elliott, and it is considered that ho will bo quite recovered very, shortly.
A passenger, who was travelling by one of the cars, states that when the collision came ho was thrown violently against the door. A moment later he saw Mr. Mihill lying bleeding on the floor of tho car.
Several passengers were slightly knocked about, and ono of tho women fainted.
