THE LEAGUE GAME
NARROW WIN FOR HUTT. The chief League match on Saturday was that at Petone between Hutt and Suburbs. _ It resulted in a win for Hutt by 17 points to 13. This means that Suburbs have lost the first two games in the contest after hard battles and by close margins. Suburbs followed up their tactics of the previous Saturday and attacked strongly at the beginning of the game. They recorded the first score, a try by Shirley, but 110 goal was kicked. This was evened up for Hutt by Moffit, who scored an easy try in the corner. Before the half-time came Howland gathered up tha ball for Hutt from a mis-kick, and almost without opposition got over. No goal was kicked, and the spell ended: Hutt, 6; Suburbs, 3. The second spell'saw play liven, up, and both sides played a fast game. In the concluding stages, when Suburbs were just a little behind, Campbell and George made repeated dashes to get over, and when ■ Campbell "potted" 'a goal he got a great round of applause. Hutt, however, managed to maintain their advantage to the last, and secured the win. Further tries wore added for Suburbs by Green and Campbell, and George and Campbell kicked goals. For Hutt the scorers of tries were: Fuller, Moffit, and Henderson, and Henderson converted his own try. The final scores were: Hutt, 17; Suburbs, 13. Mr. K. Barber controlled the game.
ATHLETIC'S BIC SCORE. After their showing in the first game of the season, when they scored 20 points in the last half, and defeated Suburbs, it was confidently expected that Athletic would have an easy victory over Petone at Newtown Park. Such proved to be tlie case, for the visiting team never had a chance, and the game ended with the huge score of 53 to 6. Athletic have shown themselves in these two matches to be a well-com-posed team, and . their passing _ rushes and combined play serve them in good stead. During tho game on Saturday, Liinie (Petone) collided with a player on his own side, and had his' eye severely cut.
JUNIOR CAMES, Hntt (9) defeated Petone (6). Central won from Suburbs by default. IN OTHER CENTRES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 16. North Shore beat Newton by 24 points to 3.
