The members of the Wanganui District Educational Institute recently nominated six candidates as delegates to the annual conference of the J«ew Zealand Educational Institute at Wellington, in July next. As only three delegates were needed, a. vote of financial members was taken with the following result: —Sir. D. \V. Low,. Palinerston North, 78 j Mr. Jas» Aitken, Wanganui, 73; Mr. T. Thomas, Eltham, 72; Mr. J. J. O'Reilly, Westmere, 53; Mr J. Law, Aramoho, 42; Miss M. Moore, Feilding, 36. The first three on the list are therefore elected.
At the annual meeting of the Masterton Branch of the New Zealand Fanners' Union, held on Saturday, a remit was passed to the provincial conference: —"That first preference be given at land ballots to men serving with the Expeditionary Forces, provided they would have been'eligible to ballot had they been in New Zealand, and that the nearest relations of' the men be able to apply on their behalf; also that the Government reserve special areas of land which can be balloted for oidy bv returned troopers." Tliia remit is also supported by the Maryborough Branch of the union.
