, On Saturday, at St. Paul's Pro-Cathe-dral, the marriage took placo of Mr. Victor Coldstream, of Horopito, to Olive Gertrude, only_ daughter of Mrs. E. Ifreeman, Hataitai. The ceremony was performed by''the Rov. A. M. Johnson. Tho bride, who was given ay, ay by her uncle,.Mr. W. Freeman, wore a nattier ' blue costume, with a large grey panne velvet hat, trimmed with ostrich plumes of the same shade. She wore a set of squirrel furs; to which were attached a spray of heliotrope chrysanthemums. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Coldstream left by train for the north, where t'heir honeymoon is to be l_^peut. A Refugee's Raffle, The drawing of the.raffle of real Brussels applique lace took place oil May 16, at 212 Lambton Quay, where Seregant Wade, in • the presence of Mr. J; J. M'Grath, Mr. Willis, Mr. U. M'Cabe, Mr. Brookes, and several others, drew the winning number, 3051. Mrs. P. B. Anderson, Paraparamum, is the fortunate holder of the ticket. The net amount obtained by tickets Sold was £145, which, with a donation of £5 from Mr. Maurice O'Connor, makes a total of £150. This money has been handed over by Mrs. T; J. Bourke, hon. secrotary to the authorities, to be; cabled to the refugees for. Pilose benefit the raffle was organised. All expenses in connection with this raffle have been personally defrayed by the' organisers. The hon. secretary desires to thank all who have assisted by the sale of tickets to make the movement such a success, particular thanks being duo to Mr. Brookes, of tile Bristol Piano Co., for his great courtesy in assisting tlie cause in so maiiy ways. Mr, and Mrs. D. M. Yeates left Masterton for Wellington on Friday.

Miss Bene Maude, the soprano vocalist of the "Court Cards," has recently been operated upon successfully for appendicitis. In apologising for her nonappearance on Saturday evening, Mr. Edgar Warwick stated that Miss Maude was now convalescent, and that in all probability she would appear this evening.

The marriage took plaoe at St. Mary's Churoh, Timaru, of Miss Mary Quick, eldest daughter of Mr. Leonard Quick, St. Ives, Cornwall (England), and formerly of Timaru, to Mr. Hubert Gould, youngest son of Mrs. J., Gould, Waterfalls, Pleasant Point. The ceremony was performed by the Ven. Archdeacon Jacob. The brido was given-away by lier uncle, Mr. E. H. Pearse, of Gleniti, and her bridesmaids were Misses Helen and Elfroda Pearse (cousins). Mr. E. H. Pearse was the best man.

Miss Nellie Hogg, who has been a member of the Masterton District .Higli School for some years, and who. has resigned on account of her approaching marriage was entertained at a farewell afternoon.tea which was given in her honour by her, fellow members of the staff on Friday afternoon at the school. During the course of the afternoon Mr. \V. H. Jackson (headmaster) made a very complimentary speech in which he expressed the regret all felt at parting Math Miss Hogg, and on behalf of the staff presented her with 'a silver tea service, oak tray and Indian hand-TOrked tray-cloth. Miss Hogg also received from the bhildren several tokens of their affection for 'her, and in the evening at a meeting of the school committee a resolution of appreciation for her faithful services was passed.

Miss Stewart (Dunedin) is the guest of Mrs. 0. H. Mills.

Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Turnbull (Christchurch),' whose son is in camp at Trentham, have been spending a few' days in Wellington.

Mrs. Bridge (Oriental Bay) is visiting' Christchurch. and is staying with Mrs. Westenra.

Mrs. Napier M'Lean has returned to Napier.

Cooper, J. and N. Cooper* Miss J. Kinvig; 2 parcels from Miss A. Moag-Lovy, and 4 parcels from anonymous donors.

Mr. Douglas Cox, the well-known New Zealand tennis player, who 'is' a member of the New Zealand Insurance Company's staff at Singapore, arrived in Auckland on Friday with Mrs. Cos, from Wellington.

Miss Hunt, 8.A., who recently resigned from the teaching staff of the Napier High School to take up a position in ; the Wellington Girls' College, left Napier on Friday for Wellington.
