HOCKEY

A KEEN SENIOR GAME

AND SOME SCRAMBLES

KarorJ fl University 4

United 3 Wellington l St Augustine's 2 Insurance 1

Tho big hockey game at Karori Park on Saturday, was tho Karon-University game. After an even and exciting battle the gaipe was undecided—4 all. United had a comfortable win over Wellington, while St. Augustine'B were hardly to be congratulated upon .narrowly beating the rather weal: Insurance eleven.

Details of tie various games are as follow

KARORI—UNIVERSITY. The meeting between Karori and University produced a battle royal. It was a fast, even, and interesting game right through, and finished up a draw— 4 all. Karori was early to the fore, and almost before the Collegians were aware of it, Whittaker had scored for the suburbanites. Karori continued the aggressive, and altogether it looked as though they would have an easy victory when the score stood at 3—o in their favour, Davies and M'Gregor having successfully emulated Whittaker. University, however, made th 6 pace very hot at the conclusion of the first spell; bo much so that when the whistle sounded they were only one goal behind their opponents. G. Str-ack and Foden scored for them. The second spell was more even and exciting, and shortly the Collegians had evened matters as a result of a splendid score from G. Strack. The same player was some tlmo later responsible for still another scoro. Stratton, however, later, evened matters again for Karori, and there was no further score. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee. UNITED—WELLINCTON. There was a long preliminary scramble on the slippery ground before anyone scored'<iu the United-Wellington fixture. Lyons was the first to score for United, and the effort was followed up by a vigorous shot from Emeny ,which more than did its duty, for the ball broke through the netting at the rear of the goal. The play until the conclusion of the first spell was nothing startling. United again were first to score in the' second spell, Lyons netting the ball. Wellington's only goal was scored by Sheeran. The game ended; United, 3; Wellington, 1.

Mr. .A. W. Manning was referee.

ST. AUGUSTINE'S—INSURANCE) The rather indeterminate scramble between St. Augustine's and Insurance was a disappointing type of game. The ground was heavy. Insurance is still almost a "scratch" team, while St. Augustine's were by no means good. The game ended in the latter's favour, A. Webbley and Taylor scoring for the winners and F. Strack for Insurance. Mr. 6. Carver was referee. Junior Games. University B, who were a man short, accounted for United'A (four short), the scores being 5—4. Richards did all the scoring for United. The gamo between University A and United B resulted in a win for the former by 9 goals to nil. The scorers woro:—Lo Petit (4), Ewart (2), Graham, and Hawkins.

Wesley (8) beat Karori (7). ' Hutt Valley (G) defeated Wellington B (0). A. Smith (4), F. Lusty, and Fraser scored.

After an interesting gamo at Newtown Park, Insurance were defeated by St. Augustine's. The score was 5 goals to 4.' Andrews (3) and Mockeridge (2) scored for the winners, and Johnston (2), Bourke and Mills one each for the losers..

LADIES' GAMES. The ladies were by no means awed into inactivity by the miserable weather conditions. The two senior games at Karori Park, however, had nothing notable in them, except that in one gamo a team four short was defeated by 21 to nil.

The referee was kept busy blowing his whistle during the game between College and Huatahi. The activity in this direction, however, was not responsible for breaches of the rules, but simply in signalling the scoring of twenty-one goals for College. Huatahi were playing four short, and were simply mown down by the combined forces of the College girls. To M'Endoe, Laurenson, Geddis, and Smith fell the work of scoring the goals. 'Mr. G. Carver was the referee. The tussle between University and Ramblors was uninteresting, and ended in the former being victorious by S coals to 1. Miss Dobbyn scored all the goals for University. Mr. G. Kealts was referee. Junior. Te Aro (1) drew with College A (1). Miss Butts scored for Te Aro. Girls' Collogo B drew with Ramblers, two goals each. Misses Holder and Gorman scored for Ramblers.
