UNPLEASANT INCIDENT

Core, May 15,. At the recruiting meeting last ovenine:, when Mr. H. D. Bedford, of Dunedin, was Hearing the close of a stirring speech, he appealed for' recruits. An' unpleasant incident then' occurred. A well-known local solicitor, Mr. \V. F. Inder, said he objected to Salvation Army methods, and mado reference to Dimedin speakers not being needed to teach Gore patriotism. ' Interjectors appealed to the crowd, who showed angry resentment. The police escorted the interjector outside, the crowd in numbers following, and becoming excited. Later the crowd assembled outside the Post Office, where Mr. Inder was. Feeling was shown. The crowd demanded that an apology be made. Mr. Inder said he apologised if tho crowd thought he had insulted Mr. Bedford or tho crowd. The latter, still angry, escorted Mr. Inder along the street to his hotel. After somo time the crowd dispersed.
