Johannesburg, May 13. Sir George AJbu's ■ offices wore raided, aud the furniture made into a bonfire. Gundelfinger's premises were also burned.
Tho total loss by riot and fires is A quarter of a million.
Fifty-one buildiiigs were wholly ofl partially wrecked. Hugh bonfires wer«| made of the wreckage. Picture? of tha Kaiser and German flags were burnt. DAMAGE AT JOHANNESBURG, ' (Re'c. May 15, 0.45 a.m.) ( Capo Town, Maj; Enormous crowds, including ' manj; women, also coloured persons, after singing the National Anthem with bared l heads,- wrecked German establishments and commenced the wholesale firing oS buildings. The brigade was unable to cope with the situation, and the military; was called out. There was an entire absence of looting. The damage done at Johannesburg amounts to at least £750,000. It ig feared that the British insurance companies will suffer the most. A thousand' rolls of cotton and woollen stuffs were removed from a warehouse and .bow fired.

tondon, May 13, There is an insistent movements, to compel naturalised British subjects of German extraction to avow loyalty. Many are responding, including Mr. Ernest Schuster, and Sir Felix Schuster, Sir Ernest Frederick Schiff, Sir Carl Meyer, and Sir Felix Simon.

Sip Felix Schuster is a member of the Council of India, Governor of tho Union of London and Smiths Bank, Ltd. Sir Ernest Schiff is a Knight of the Imperial Austrian 'Order of the Iron Crown, and Commander of tho Order o£ Francis Joseph With the Star. Sir Carl Meyer is Lieutenant of the City of London, director of the National Bank of Egypt, and chairman of the Londoix Committee of De Beers Company.] , .
